Lugano in this moment last on the table in Swiss first league but they are doing solid in Europe league group stage, where they have 1-0-2 score with 4:5 goal aggregate and in this moment they are 2nd ranked – this week there is no Europe league matches so they can focus on this cup match and next league match vs Luzern on 29.10 which is very important.
Like i already said they are last this season and dont perform really well but between them and Shotz there is HUGE quality difference. Schotz is team coming from 1. Liga Classic (group 2) its 4th ranked league by quality in Switzerland. In first two rounds they managed to go though Hergiswil (1:3) and Interstar Geneve 2:2 (decided on penalties) but you cant even find enough informations about this teams. Lugano on the other side in 1/32 finals won vs Bassecourt 0:6 – just for informations they are in same league with Schotz and probably same quality and then in next round weak performance and win vs Konitz 0:1 with late goal but atleast they are in league quality higher than Schotz.
Everton are in shambles and there is no other way to explain it, after failing to win 5 straight games, and only 2 wins in the Premier League, manager Ronald Koeman had to go. Everton had spent a lot of money in the off-season to strengthen the squad with reinforcements like Rooney, Sandro, Klaasen, Sigurdsson, Pickford and Keane coming in that was supposed to give them a boost to play and try to win all competitions. While they struggled initially to find the goals, Wayne Rooney has found is rhythm slowly while Niasse has been a high impact player of the bench in this regard. Defensively, it has been horrible for them conceding in 12 out of their last 13 games in all competitions. The situation they face implies there will be goals among these sides as Everton players aim to show their worth while interim manager Unsworth will be trying out for the hot-seat himself.
Mainz broke their undefeated streak of three matches with a 2:0 defeat away to Schalke last Friday evening, where the side failed to present themselves in a better image and less passive one. However, players of Schalke simply stood better on the field, had better chances and generally were superior in comparison to opponent.
Hosts have entered the match with a goal in 12th minute via Goretzka, while the guests didn’t find a proper way to reply. Game wasn’t much interesting, but the players of Schalke simply knew what they wanted, doubling up the lead in 74th minute via Burgstaller, taking completely deserved victory. Mainz is now at 12th position having three points more than play-out placed Hamburger.
Mainz continues to have slight problems making the defensive lineup, as they continue to miss central backs Leon Balogun (4/0), Alexander Hack (no performance so far), team captain Niko Bungert (who also didn’t perform in the new season) and left back Gaetan Bussmann (no performance either for now). Forwards Gerrit Holtmann (no performance) and Karim Onisiwo (2/0) are sidelined as well.
Guimaraes had their last Primeira game played on 1st October, when the side visited Belenenses and stood defeated with narrow 1:0 result. Only goal was scored back in 26th minute via Tandjigora, but must be said that the match was pretty much equal one and the final result could have been way more different on some other day.
After this defeat, Guimaraes stands at eleventh position already with six points less than Europa League placed Maritimo, at the same time having four points more than relegating duo. They have suffered narrow defeat away to Marseille in Europa League last Thursday evening with a 2:1 result, playing actually quite well during the match even though they were limited to a passive role, but now having just a point out of first three rounds and surely with weak chances to progress further.
Central defender Pedrao (7/0) is still injured, while also out remain forward Paolo Hurtado (7/1), goalkeeper Douglas Jesus (4/0) and striker Joao Vigario (1/0). Home team should be playing in 4-2-3-1 formation with Martins most likely as central striker.
Sundsvall has been unlucky in the recent games. Last week they were up 1-0 against Elfsborg , and had many chances to make their lead bigger and ended up losing the game 2-1 with a last minute goal. They are 2 points above the play-out line. There are 3 weeks to go and they want to avoid to play the relegation play out. 2 of these 3 games are at home. Their head coach Cedergen are pleased with the way the team plays. Team Captain Naurin has said in an interview that they are fully concentrated for the remaining 3 games. They have a positive way of football even when they lost 5-0 to Djurgarden and I am also positive for them for the remaining 3 games.
Norkoping has still a target of finishing top 3. In my opinion that is not quite possible since there are 3 teams in front of them. Last week they lost to Malmö. After losing key players of their squad in July transfer window , head coach Gustafsson has made some system changes, the team reacted to that however Norkping is no where close to what they used to be in the previous seasons. The key defender for Norkoping Smith will not play due to suspension..
Eintracht Frankfurt comes from a very good performance and a three pointer taken away to Hannover last weekend. The game itself was pretty much defensive minded one, with low number of concrete chances and shared ball possession, but the players of Eintracht were more concrete and had better chances.
Haller brought the visitors into the lead in tenth minute, while Sane leveled up in 36th minute, while the guests were more willing to risk and attack in last phase of the match, scoring the second goal in 89th minute via Rebic and leaving no time for the home side to reply back. Team from Frankfurt is now at seventh position at the table with thirteen points, which is just two less than Champions League placed Hoffenheim and need points here in order to stay competitive for the European spots.
Hosts should be playing in 3-4-2-1 formation with Haller as central striker, plus Gacinovic and Rebic most likely as offensive midfielders. Central defender Simon Falette (7/0) is suspended for this match too, while the hosts continue to miss several other players due injuries: right back Danny da Costa (2/0), defensive midfielder Gelson Fernandes (5/0) plus four more that didn’t play a single competitive minute this season. Midfielders Timothy Chandler and Marc Stendera are having some problems this season, while manager Niko Kovac has no reason to make many changes for this one.
Fortuna Dusseldorf is really doing fine so far in the season and after ten rounds played they do stand out as one of the hottest favorites to win the promotion. Currently, the side comes into this match on a streak of four consecutive victories, being three points above second placed Holstein Kiel and probably more importantly, six points more than play-off placed Nurnberg.
They come from a 2:0 victory against Arminia Bielefeld last weekend, taking the game very seriously from the first minute and deserving the victory fully. They took the lead in 35th minute via Raman, being way better even once they had the lead, doubling it up in 76th minute with a goal from Neuhaus. They have four consecutive victories at home too and surely that the aim is another one this time.
Hosts miss goalkeeper Michael Rensing (3/0) and should have no other important absentees for the next game.
Lugano has entered really poor period now, as the side counts five consecutive defeats in all competitions. They come from five consecutive defeats in Swiss Super League with just one goal scored in the process, coming from a 0:4 defeat in front of own fans against Basel last weekend.
They were completely outplayed and didn’t score for three consecutive matches now in Super League, being at rock bottom position for the moment with just eight points earned in eleven matches which is three less than safely placed Luzern. As for the Europa League, they have two defeats too, against FCSB at home and to Hapoel Beer Sheva on the road, having pretty little ambitions now in Europe.
Defender Goran Jozinovic (didn’t play this season) remains injured, with midfielder Stefano Guidotti remains doubtful but anyway without performing so far. Forward Carlinhos Junior (9/1) shouldn’t be playing either.
CSKA Moscow managed to take all three points last time out in Russian Premier League, as the side won on the road against Krasnodar thanks to only goal scored by Berezutski in 38th minute. However, it must be said that the visitors from Moscow were generally lucky during the game, with the home team creating more dangerous situations overall.
Not only that, they really took over the control in the second halftime and it only looked like it was a matter of time when the goal for Krasnodar comes. It was good way to break their mini run of two consecutive draws, as the team now stands at third position with four points less than leaders from Zenit and two less than second placed Lokomotiv Moscow. As for the Champions League, CSKA has a victory and a defeat so far and needs to get some points in this one in case they want to stay competitive for the second position.
Defender Vasili Berezutski (10/1) is injured with a calf problem, while offensive Alan Dzagoev (11/1) also remains out. Doubtful is forward Aleksandr Makarov (no performance in the new season anyway).
Southend had four victories in a row in official matches before they suffered two defeats in League One and will surely be trying to get back on the winning track here. Firstly they have suffered defeat away to Doncaster, but then also last weekend on the road against simply way more concrete and experienced Wigan 3:0.
Their opponents simply entered the game way better and took the lead in eight minute already via Jacobs, while it was much easier for them once Southend stood playing with a man less, back in 59th minute when McGlashan got excluded with a red card. Since that moment on the ball possession went to the home side, while they managed to score twice more, in last ten minutes of the game when the visitors tried to risk more – in 84th minute via Powell and 88th minute with a goal from Toney. Southend now slipped down the table to fifteenth position having just four more than relegating placed AFC Wimbledon and as said, will be looking to bounce back to positive ways in this one.
Midfielder Jermaine McGlashan will miss this one due suspension, while defender Michael Turner remains doubtful after recovering slowly from a hamstring injury. Central defender Rob Kiernan will miss next couple of months due undergoing surgery.
