Darmstadt surprised everyone last Friday evening when the team managed to get a point in a 3:3 draw away from home against much more favorited Union Berlin. It was very open game from both teams and even though the hosts had the lead twice, with visitors temporarily leveling up via Boyd in 51st minute.
However, heir point was completely deserved since they had great period of performance in the middle of the second when they managed to revert the scoreline thanks to another goal from Boyd in 61st and a goal from Kempe from penalty kick five minutes later – however hosts deservedly (too) reached the equalizer in fifth minute of additional time via an own goal. Still, this was ninth consecutive game without a victory for Darmstadt, as they continue to be in the second part of the table now having just a point more than play-out placed Dynamo Dresden and surely feel that they should have come up with something more from previous round.
Central defender Peter Niemeyer (1/0) is injured, same as forward Felix Platte (6/2).
Regensburg, on the other side, is in a really good momentum now, as the side comes from their fourth consecutive match without a defeat, having three victories and a draw in the process. The team improved really well last weekend and reacted even better in the first halftime, as they crushed Duisburg with a 4:0 result.
They have opened up the game in a best possible way, since the side took the lead in eight minute already via Gruttner, while Nietfeld and Lais increased the lead to three goals difference before the halftime whistle. Visitors were threatening too, but it simply wasn’t their day, while the hosts sealed the victory with a goal from Mees couple of minutes before the end. The side is now standing at eleventh position having two points more than play-out placed Dresden and also remains close to a must win situation. Guests should have no fresh injury worries for this one.
— Four out of last five mutual matches of these two ended with both teams scoring.
Darmstadt plays offensive football and usually creating a lot, but their defensive lineup is far away from functional one all season long so far. Visitors are coming with a boosted morale here and surely aren’t anywhere close to an under dog. Overall open game with both teams having plenty of chances to score more than once is what I expect here.
