Dortmund are looking to try and build some momentum after fading out the last couple of weeks drawing 3 straight games in a row coming into this game after beating Sporting by a narrow 2-1 goal line last time around. Aubamayeng has been their leading goal scorer with 3 goals in 3 Champions League outings so far and will be aiming to add to that tally in front of their home fans. With a strong attacking midfield boasting the likes of Gotze, Dembele, Kagawa, Castro, Pulisic who are extremely strong while on the counter attack which has helped them scores for most of the campaign. Where Dortmund has been struggling in recent weeks is at the back especially with injuries to key defenders Marcel Schmelzer, Erik Durm, Neven Subotic, and Raphael Guerreiro which leaves them with a rotated back 4 finding it difficult to keep it tight at the back. Dortmund have conceded goals in 8 out of their last 9 games, and that will be something that Sporting will be licking their lips at.
Sporting played a superb game in front of their home fans but were done in by an early lead by Dortmund. They were able to cash in 1 goal Bruno Cesar but the likes of Bas Dost, Bryan Ruiz, Lazar Markovic, Gelson Martins and Joel Campbell were ineffective at the tie. Sporting’s form after the Champions League tie is the same as Dortmund where they have drawn 2 straight games, which will be a cause for concern. Sporting also have been poor defensively conceding in 6 out of their last 9 games and have looked struggling defensively away from home.
This tie was an extremely entertaining one the last time around, and I expect it to be another open game with both teams looking to find the back of the net, but also at least 3 goals flowing through this contest. I am backing Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score in this one.
