Garcia Lopez vs Wawrinka

Stan Wawrinka is slowly coming back after his knee injury, and it looks like he will need quite some time before he even comes close to his old form. Last year’s RG finalist is really struggling, this year he played 10 matches, winning only 4. Short run in AO, losing in straight sets against Sandgren, then a semifinal exit in Sofia against Basic, followed by a defeat against the Dutch ITF player Griekspoor. After the retired match against Ivanska in Marseille, he took a long break untill Rome, only to be defeated by Steve Johnson. Don’t let the win vs. Donaldson change your mind, and Fucsovics proved just how vulnerable Wawrinka is. Stan won only a bit over 50% points on his 1st serve, and the Hungarian was dominating in most rallies and even bageled Wawrinka in 2nd set.
Guilermo Garcia Lopez will test Wawrinka’s movement, and in a best of 5 match, I don’t think Stan can keep up with Garcia Lopez, who is in solid form. His goal will be to move Wawrinka around the court as much as possible, and he has the game for that. Garcia Lopez played in Lyon last week, where he made a solid run, and eventually lost to Thiem in 3 sets.

This pick is more of a “fade” against Stan, who is really in miserable form than actually betting on good form of GGL. At this moment, Stan is far from his old-self, and I think Garcia Lopez should win here. Only reason why Wawrinka is set as favourite here is because of his reputation and these odds are hard to overlook. I’m going flat-out on this one.
