Shrewsbury had a very impressive game last time out, when the team welcomed Aldershot in 1/128 finals of English FA Cup and recorded a 5:0 victory on Saturday evening. They were favorites on the paper, but confirmed that with really convincing performance on the field, getting a deserved victory thanks to goals from Rodman, Whalley, Payne, Gnahoua and Morris, last three in second halftime.
As for the League One competition, the side comes from a narrow 1:0 defeat away to Peterborough, defeat that came with an early goal as the players of Shrewsbury failed to respond further on. That defeat was their first one in League One, as the side continues to lead the table with a point more than second placed Wigan, having 11-4-1 record at the moment and still being red hot favorites for the direct promotion. As for the Checkatrade Trophy, the side leads the table with two victories in comparison to second placed Walsall that has two points less.
Walsall, on the other side, didn’t manage to progress the 1/128 phase of English FA Cup as the side suffered 2:1 defeat away to Newport last Saturday evening. They were slight favorites against League Two side, but the side failed to be more concrete in attack and were down with a 2:0 result after the start of the second halftime, only being able to reduce the deficit in 77th minute via Bakayoko.
As for the League One competition, they also suffered defeat in front of own fans against Southend with narrow 1:0 result and only goal being scored in seventeenth minute via Cox. The team failed to respond later on even though they were slight favorites before the clash, as the side now stands at fifteenth position only, having nineteen points earned so far which is four points more than relegating placed Northampton.
— Each of the last 3 matches that Shrewsbury have played had over 2.5 goals.
Shrewsbury have shown so much more in the season and even though both sides will rotate their squads for this one, I still believe much more in the home team. Players of Walsall will need to risk more due to their position at the table and once it happens, Shrewsbury should have enough concentration to get another victory against obviously at least a bit weaker side overall.
