Atalanta, after a long time, made a setback in the last round, when they came out with an away draw against Verona. They were by far a better team in the first part when they completely dominated, but the goalkeeper of the home team prevented them to score in several occasions.
The only two goals in this match have been seen in the second part when hosts showed a much more offensive approach. Visitors took the lead first in the 50th minute over Zapata, after a catastrophic error of the home team, but despite that, Verona managed to level up only nine minutes later via Pessina, being sharper later but without scoreline change.
Atalanta is in the third position, with the Champions League now being mathematically secured. They are just one point behind Inter, and a higher placement is always welcomed.
Midfielder Hateboer (29/0) is out suspended for this one. Injured should remain midfielder Ilicic (26/15).
Bologna suffered a very convincing 5:1 defeat last Saturday evening against superior Milan, away from home.
After the first forty-five minutes, the Rossoneri had a 2:1 lead, with full control over the match. In continuation, they completely outplayed the visitors, and with three more goals being scored, the home team completely cleared off the pitch Bologna that day.
They are currently at the tenth place in Serie A, safely positioned in the middle, but not in a situation to compete for European exit places.
Left-back Dijks (12/0) is suspended for this clash, while injured remains defensive midfielder Schouten (17/0).
An open and relaxed match is expected
With Atalanta slowly but surely bringing this season to an end, I see them quite relaxed here. The same could be said for Bologna, as they too are pretty much done. There will be no holding back here from neither of them, there is no reason for it.
Atalanta is a strong favorite and they shouldn’t stay passive, while the team from Bologna benefits from open play, knowing how to play via counters against favorites on paper – something that they proved many times this season. The visitors do have the spirit that is willing to fight back.
