Augsburg managed to break the winless run of six matches with quite a surprising victory away from home against Schalke with a 0:3 result last Sunday afternoon. They made a perfect entrance into the match, scoring a goal via Lowen in the sixth minute already and it was far easier for them to play since then.
They waited for the opponent via counter-attacks, as the home team had less than creative performance and looked pretty vulnerable at the back. This way, it was difficult for Augsburg to threaten, sealing the victory with goals from Sarenren-Bazee and Cordova in the last fifteen minutes of the game.
Augsburg team news
Offensive Hahn (11/1) is doubtful, the same as forward Schieber (2/0). Offensive Finnbogason (16/3) could get some playing time coming from a knee problem.
Paderborn comes from their second consecutive draw match, taking a point in a 1:1 game against Hoffenheim. In any other circumstance, that would be a fine result for them however they are at the relegating position and a victory was needed. Both teams scored their goals within the first ten minutes, with Paderborn enduring well till the end.
However, it wasn’t enough from Hoffenheim to get the lead back, although they were slightly sharper. This was eight consecutive games with no victory for Paderborn, as they stand now six points behind playout placed Fortuna.
Paderborn team news
Central defender Kilian (13/0) is injured and won’t perform in this one. Striker Mamba has recovered from a knee injury.
Paderborn desperately need points in this one, but there’s not much they can actually offer comparing to Augsburg. Neither Augsburg si completely safe, but this one comes as a perfect chance to detach themselves away from the relegating zone. The hosts shouldn’t blow up this chance coming from such a morale-boosting victory last time out.
