CSKA Moscow vs Benfica

CSKA Moscow are second in their group, equal points with Basel and really need to win this game, as their next game is away to Manchester United, and if Basel win their game with them, then they will face a tough task having to win at Old Trafford to ensure they progress to the next stage. They have had some strange results in the Champions League as they have lost both home games, beaten 2-0 by Basel and 4-1 by Manchester United. However they have won both away games, as they beat Basel 2-1 and Benfica also 2-1 on the road. They get a boost for this game with Mario Fernandes training with the team this week and is likely to play, especially as he gives them a good option down the right flank.

For Benfica they have lost all four of their group games, and need some sort of miracle if they are to progress to either the next stage of the Champions League or even the Europa League. They have lost 5-0 at Manchester United and 2-0 at Basel, while they lost 2-1 at home to CSKA Moscow and 1-0 to Manchester United. Though they have talked that they will continue their fight to stay alive in this competition, they really have little chance of getting through. It will be interesting to see their line up as they have a game against midtable Vitoria de Setabul and they are looking to stay in touch with leaders Porto who are five points above them. What is another factor is that temperatures are expect to be between 0 and -5 degrees which is going to be cold for the Portuguese side as they will not be use to these conditions. Not much fun playing when it gets this cold and this can further erode some of the little motivation that they have for this game. Like the home team to win this one
