Eibar surprised their fans in the worst possible way, as the team lost 1:2 at home to Mallorca last Saturday afternoon. They were set as quite a strong favorite and actually justified the role with their ball possession, but weren’t anywhere creative and concrete with the chances created as it should have been.
The guests used their counter-attacks and took the lead via Rodriguez in the 42nd minute, while Kubo doubled up in the 78th minute. Despite superior position on the field from Eibar, the team only managed to reduce the deficit via Bigas in the second minute of added time.
They are now just two points above the relegation placed Mallorca and can only benefit from a result from this game.
Central defender Ramis (7/1) is out injured. He should be only injury worry for the hosts.
Sociedad interrupted their winning streak with a narrow 1:0 defeat away to Barcelona last weekend. Even though they broke the winning run of six matches in all competitions, they can’t be very disappointed with such an outcome as they looked pretty competitive for most of the clash.
Barcelona was dominating the game and looked better, but could only break the opponents via a penalty kick from Messi in the 81st minute. Surely an outcome and performance to be quite satisfied with. They are now just three points behind the Champions League placed Getafe and with only one more than out of Europa League placed Valencia, meaning it remains quite a must-win situation for them.
Real Sociedad team news
The guests continue to miss midfielder Illarramendi (3/0) and defender Elustondo (12/0) for this one.
Eibar disappointed in the previous round and it’s difficult to see very improved performance from them now, knowing the quality of their opponents. Sociedad should be able to get back to positive results, as they have shown so much more in their creativity and ball movement in recent weeks.
