Germany U21 and Isreal U21 will play a qualification match for the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship final tournament in Romania and Georgia. The match will be played at the Benteler-Arena in Paderborn.
In this group B, we have Germany U21 and Israel U21 with 6 points, Hungary U21 and Poland U21 have 3 points, and Latvia U21 and San Marino U21 have 0 points. I will play on the option that we will have 10 or more corners in this match.
Germany U21 is the actual European champion and they win three titles of the European champion in the last 12 years (2009, 2017, and 2021). They are a much better team than Israel U21 and I expect that they will attack the Isreal U21 goal every 90 minutes.
Germany starts this qualification cycle with a 6-0 victory in San Marino (10-0 corners) and a 3-1 victory in Latvia (6-4 corners). Germany U21 has a new head coach Antonio Di Salvo. Vincent Müller (PSV Eindhoven), Luca Netz (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Jan Thielmann (1. FC Köln), Malik Tillman (FC Bayern München) and Kevin Schade (SC Freiburg) have all been selected for the first time.
Yannik Keitel (SC Freiburg) and Jordan Beyer (Borussia Mönchengladbach) missed out on the games in September due to injury, and now they returned to the squad.
This will be their first match in front of a crowd since November 2019. Additional motive will be the fact that Di Salvo will also be taking charge of his first U21 match since succeeding from Stefan Kuntz as head coach on 23rd September, and his first game taking place in his hometown of Paderborn.
Israel U21 has two appearances at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship final tournament in their history and they finished only Group stage (2007 and 2013 – hosts). In the last qualification cycle, they finished as third in the group. Spain U21 was first and North Macedonia U21 was second in the group.
Now they have an excellent start in the new cycle. They win against Poland U21 and Hungary U21 away with 2-1. Israel U21 players play in domestic championship and they have only two “foreign” players: Ilay Elmkies (FC Admira Wacker Mödling) and Suf Podgoreanu (Spezia Calcio)
As you can see Germany U19 has a better team and I think that they will easily win today (2-0 or 3-1) and that we will see at least 10 corners in the match.
