After many negative experiences and results too, players of Guingamp managed to break the negativity and pulled out a three-pointer away to Angers last Saturday afternoon in a narrow 1:0 victory. The only goal was scored back in the 45th minute via Benezet, as the guests scored a bit against the flow of the first halftime.
The home team was better in first, while it was easier for Guingamp to play in the second and threaten mostly thanks to counter attacks. It’s obvious that the match could have gone in a totally different way in case the visitors didn’t score on time.
This was a great improvement in results for them after a point taken away to Nimes a few days earlier too. The team is still however at the rock bottom position at the table with just four points out of eight rounds played.
Forward Nolan Roux (8/1) is injured. Offensive midfielders Marcus Thuram (7/3) and Ronny Rodelin (3/0) are both doubtful for now.
Montpellier, on the other hand, comes from a very convincing performance in front of own fans against Nimes last Sunday afternoon, sealing impressive 3:0 victory. Both teams had chances, but the hosts showed complete superiority and dominance, also great effectivity in the attack.
Onyongo brought them into the lead in the 28th minute, while the hosts doubled up the lead just before the halftime whistle via penalty taken by Delort. They continued being better in the second part, but with a bit less of ball possession sealing the victory thanks to a goal from Laborde in the 78th minute.
Apart from first-round loss, the team looks rock solid for now being at the third position for the moment with just a point less than second-placed Lille.
Offensive midfielder Keagan Dolly (3/0) is injured. Central defender Hilton (7/0) serves his second match ban.
Guingamp will surely be looking to improve in this clash, however, I see Montpellier as a very stable side in such cases. They have just one defeat so far and no losses on the road, obviously benefiting from playing with a bit lack of pressure. Defensively the team looks rock solid and should be regarded at least a slight favorite in this one.
