Heerenveen didn’t have many chances to stay undefeated away from home against Feyenoord last weekend, suffering a 3:1 loss in the end.
They were simply outplayed by far stronger opponent, simply as the home team scored three goals inside the first twenty-six minutes and even though the guests reduced in the 21st via Veerman, that was all they could do actually.
Feyenoord lowered down the tempo and allowed more offensive phases for Heerenveen also, however without jeopardizing the result till the end.
The side now stands with just two points less than playoff placed Utrecht before the start of the new round, so a victory here is their priority.
Midfielder Ras (3/0) is out injured, while forward Odgaard (17/7) remains doubtful coming from injury. Defender Hoegh (3/0) should be fine to start.
AZ Alkmaar finished the previous year with a defeat away to Sparta Rotterdam which wasn’t an expected result, while the new part of the season started in the same way for them.
It was an unexpected home loss to Willem II 1:3, without showing their old good face when the team would dominate the game and create chance after chance.
They did take the lead via Idrissi in the 27th minute but failed to be more creative and concrete, allowing themselves to have the ball possession without real effect whatsoever.
Instead of it, it was the visiting team that was scoring goals in the last twenty-five minutes, firstly leveling up via Kohlert in the 65th minute, managing to exploit riskier approach from he home team in the last fifteen minutes too, by netting two goals more – via Pavlidis and Tresor Ndayushmiye.
AZ is now still in the second position, but would really benefit from soon improvement in their results.
Central defender Hatzidiakos (11/1) is out injured and he should be the only absentee for the guest.
AZ Alkmaar really overperformed at some point of the season and it wasn’t that logical for them to continue in such a great manner. Still, goals remain very likely in their matches in both nets.
Wouldn’t be surprised at all in case of a home victory, so a choice with goals remains as the best option for this one in my eyes.
