After their convincing victory in the first round, Lyon had difficulties in the next two, as they come with a 0:0 away draw against Bordeaux and suffered a 2:1 loss to Montpellier in the last one, playing away from home.
The visitors were a better team by far in the first part of the match, but they, unfortunately, conceded from the penalty in the 38th minute. Things to be worse, they were left with a player less on the pitch in the 44th, when Aouar received a direct red card. In the continuation, the hosts used the numerical advantage that they had and scored another one over Savanier in the 59th.
In the 81st minute, the number of players on the field was equalised, and the guests were able to reduce the deficit from the penalty in the 82nd, Depay was effective. The visitors had a little more than ten minutes to level up, but they failed in doing so and suffered a loss in this encounter, maybe a bit undeservedly.
Lyon is currently in the 11th place on the table, but this is just the beginning, and I am sure that they will improve their appearances in the matches to come.
Midfielder Aouar (2/0) is suspended, while injured is offensive Reine-Adelaide (1/0). Offensive Traore is doubtful for now.
Nimes started the new season similarly as their opponent in this one, as they too recorded a convincing victory in the first round, but suffer losses in the next two. In the last match, they lost to Rennes with a 2:4 result, back at their home.
Both teams played a very open and aggressive match, not hesitating to risk. The visitors were better at realising their chances and went on a break with a 1:2 advantage. The home side levelled up in the 55th, but the guest was more concrete, as they were able to score two more goals as the game progressed, and record a victory in this clash.
Nimes occupies 13th place in the standings, and they will certainly try to take as much as possible out of this season, as in the previous one they were at the 18th place, very close to relegation.
Offensive midfielder Philippoteaux (3/1) probably won’t appear in this one, while injured remain right-back Alakouch (1/0) and defensive midfielder Deaux (3/0).
Back to positive ways
Lyon has everything that they need to record a victory in this one. They showed back in Lisbon that they are more than capable of competing against some of the best teams in the world. They are still warming up and could be vulnerable in some situations, but I am not putting their victory in question here.
If they impose their style of play on the visitors, their victory shouldn’t be questionable with good offensive potential. At the same time, they could concede too – never knowing with their defensive concentration.
