Malmo couldn’t do more in the Champions League qualifiers being excluded in the third round to Hungarian champions of MOL Vidi, while the team proved to be stronger than the Danish Midtjylland.
As for the first Europa League group stage round the Swedish team suffered 2:0 defeat away from home against Genk two weeks ago. Truth to be said, they were simply outplayed by far better opponent and did close to nothing in attack overall. Trossard and Samata scored a goal in each halftime and it could be already said that this will be a hell of a task for Malmo to progress further.
They were huge favorites to win over Sundsvall at home last Sunday afternoon, but all they achieved was a goalless draw. They are no at fourth position six rounds till the end and no doubt that the title hopes are fully finished now being thirteen points behind leaders from AIK.
The home team will be missing forward Carlos Strandberg (15/6) who already misses for a couple of months. Defender Rasmus Bengtsson (10/0) and goalkeeper Johan Dahlin (19/0) are doubtful for this one.
Besiktas was a huge favorite in the first round of Europa League against Norwegian side Sarpsborg two weeks ago. However, the Turkish team was only able to make the difference in the second halftime when the guests lost some of their energy.
Once they broke the opponents defensively, it was easier for Besiktas to reach the three-pointer with goals from Babel, Roco, and Lens, with the guests only reducing in the fourth minute of added time.
As for the domestic league, Besiktas comes from a 2:0 home victory over Kayserispor last weekend. With four victories, two draws and a defeat, players of Besiktas are now just a point behind leaders from Galatasaray. Defender Adriano (5/0) is doubtful for this one missing previous three too.
Malmo knows that their real chance stands with home matches and that’s why I expect them to be a quite attacking side in this one. Of course, the Turkish team remains a favorite and is alone able to score more than a couple of goals. Will be sticking with goals from both sides in this one, strongly believing that’s where the value stands.
