PSG approaches this Coupe de la Ligue final after they won French Cup against St Etienne with a minimal 1:0 result. They won the cup, yes, but for their standards, they didn’t leave quite an impression, as everyone was expecting much more from them.
Neymar was the only one to score in this encounter, in the 14th minute when he caught a rebound inside the penalty area. PSG had a player more on the pitch from the 34th minute, but despite that huge advantage and several chances, they failed in making this final more interesting.
Before the global corona crisis, they were in the first place in Ligue 1, with twelve points ahead of second-placed Marseille.
PSG team news
Offensive Mbappe (20/18) is missing for this one, as well as right-back Kehrer (7/1). Left-back Bernat (18/0) shouldn’t be risked either. They should opt for a 4-4-2 formation with Icardi and Neymar in the attack.
Lyon had a couple of really nice appearances in the club friendlies before this cup final. They played five matches in total, as they recorded four victories against Antwerpen, Gent, Celtic, and Nice, loosing only to Rangers.
Before the regular season suddenly ended, they were at the 7th place, with just one point behind Europa-League placed Nice, so they were surely more than capable to step in the race for Europa.
They enter this final as a serious underdog, but not with their heads down, as they are well aware of their potential to be dangerous.
They should miss left-back Kone (11/0), plus right-back Tete (18/0) remains doubtful for the moment. They are probably starting in a 3-5-2 formation with Dembele and Depay in the attack.
No clean sheets in this final
PSG, as already mentioned above is a strong favorite, and with some of the best players in the world among their ranks, goals shouldn’t be missing from their side. Lyon definitely has the quality to respond in the attack unlike St Etienne, while neither of them should be too cautious despite their Champions League duties in the next weeks.
