Reading suffered their first defeat this season in the Championship last Friday evening when they came from a 3:2 loss against Coventry, away. The clash itself was a very interesting one, as both sides picked a riskier approach.
The hosts proved to be more creative with the ball to their feet, as they practically secured their victory with a goal only five minutes before the full-time whistle, and took a 3:1 lead. The visitors were able to respond once more in the first minute of added time and reduce the deficit to 3:2, but there was nothing more that they can do in this encounter, as that last goal simply came a bit late.
Never the less, Reading is looking quite good this season, as they are currently in the leading spot, and if they continue with their good appearances, promotion is surely looking like a realistic scenario.
The hosts continue to miss right-backs Araruna (2/0), Yiadom (1/0), midfielders Baldock (1/0), and Swift (2/0), with defender Holmes (5/0) being added to the absentees list too. Defender Moore (9/0) is doubtful with chances to recover on time. Midfielder Ejaria (6/1) should be back this time.
Preston showed some vulnerabilities in their last two matches, as they suffered two consecutive defeats. In their latest clash against Birmingham at home, they come with a 1:2 loss, despite having the ball possession advantage during the entire match.
They conceded very early, already in the 2nd minute, but responded with an equalizer in the 24th over Stockley. As the match progressed, the visitors appeared more dangerous with the ball and were able to be effective one more time in the 85th minute.
Preston is currently in 16th place, having ten points out of nine matches played, looking a bit insecure with their appearances since the beginning.
Central defender Davies (5/0) is out injured, as well as defensive midfielder Paerson (5/0) and forward Moult (no performance in this season).
Reading has won their last 5 matches against Preston.
Way better team cohesion
Even though they suffered a defeat in their latest match, the hosts are still looking like a team that is much closer to victory in the upcoming clash. The visitors have the potential to be dangerous, maybe even come out with a draw out of this one, but as mentioned, the home side is looking way better since the beginning of the season.
If they approach here with their distinctive play, their victory seems more probable. There’s certain team cohesion built up that can’t be neglected like that, even though they miss a couple of important ones.
