Rio Ave is struggling with their performances in Primeira, not being able to escape from a defeat in the last three matches. Last Sunday evening, they suffered a loss on the road to Ferreira with a 2:0 result.
Despite having the ball to their feet, the visitors looked passive in this encounter, not being in a position to attack more frequently. They went on a break with a 1:0 deficit, and even though appeared slightly better in the second, attacks lacked creativity. In the 56th minute, the guests conceded another one over Tanque, who was effective in the first part as well.
Rio Ave is appearing poorly this season, having only eleven points out of twelve matches, currently being at playout leading 16th spot on the table.
Hosts keep missing defensive midfielder Filipe Augusto (7/0), while left-back Fabio Coentrao (1/0) and offensive Diego Lopes (11/1) aren’t expected to play being tested positive recently.
Portimonense succeeded in ending their three matches winless streak last time out against Farense at home, outplaying them with a 2:0 result.
They were in complete control over this clash, but never the less had to wait for the last twenty minutes to finally be effective. Beto brought his team the lead in the 70th minute, and with another one scored over the same player just before the full-time whistle, the hosts took this routine victory.
Portimonense is pretty much in the same position as their opponents in the upcoming clash, but they can owe their higher ranking 15th spot due to a slightly better goal difference.
Midfielder Lucas Fernandes (7/0) and defensive midfielder Pedro Sa (8/0) should be out injured for this one.
Hosts have far bigger potential
Certainly, this one can be a close call, as both sides aren’t appearing as they should in this season. In terms of quality, there is surely some bigger potential with the hosts, who are slightly underperforming in recent games. After all, they have the home-field advantage, and being close to a must-win situation is enough for me to try my luck here. Medium stakes though.
