After they put up with quite a match in the last round of Serie A against Milan when they come with a 3:3 away draw, Roma made a setback at home last Thursday evening, as they played a goalless European match with CSKA Sofia.
Both teams lacked creativity at the finishing, as they missed a couple of very nice opportunities in both parts of the match, especially Roma, thus failing to make this encounter more interesting to watch. Like other teams that are playing in Europan competitions, Roma is having problems with fatigue, which is not surprising at all, if consider the period between matches.
Never the less, the Romans appeared well in their last three matches in Serie A, and are currently in 9th place, obviously appearing better in Italy.
The hosts will miss injured defensive midfielder Diawara (2/0), plus offensive Zaniolo and Pastore – both without playing in the new season. Defender Santon (4/0) is doubtful with a muscle problem.
Fiorentina played a very interesting and dynamic match last Sunday evening when they recorded a 3:2 victory against Udinese, playing back in Florence. They used their chances with higher efficiency during the first part and deservedly went on a break with a 2:1 lead.
They added another one to the scoreline just six minutes since the beginning of the second part and picked up a more defensive approach as the match progressed towards the end. The guests reduced the deficit in the 86th, but despite being a more aggressive team in the second part, failed in scoring another one.
With this victory, Fiorentina found themselves in 10th place on the table, having only a point less than their opponent in this one.
Central back Pezzella (2/1) and midfielder Borja Valero (2/0) should be out due to injuries, while doubtful remains defender Lirola (4/0) for the moment.
Goals should be all over the game
Roma is considered a strong favorite in this clash, and judging by their latest appearance in Seria A, should have no problems to be effective in this one, but the visitors shouldn’t be that overly underestimated.
Fiorentina simply can’t afford to stay back and be passive, as their offensive part of the team is anyways better. Roma, even though is a favorite by the bookies, can not be fully trusted at the moment.
