After a run of really positive and good performances, players of Salernitana couldn’t do better in a 2:0 loss away from home against Chievo last weekend. Even though they were set as a slight underdog, the team fought well and had some decent phases in the offense, but the individual experience and quality prevailed this time.
Chievo looked slightly better in the first halftime and took the lead from the penalty spot via Giaccherini, while it was easier for them to play since then. Simply by waiting for counter-attacks which finally sealed the victory in the 70th minute thanks to another goal from Giaccherini.
It was the first loss after three victories and a draw game, as the team stands now just two points above out of playoff zone placed Chievo and needs to seek a victory here if they are to remain competitive in the promotional battle.
Salernitana team news
Forward Lombardi (17/3) is sidelined due to injury and will miss for a couple of more months, as well as offensive Cerci (4/0).
Livorno was nowhere close to a competitive side in a 0:3 home loss to Cosenza last time out. Overall quite an open first halftime, where players of Livorno also had their chances, it was Cosenza that showed that football is only about scoring goals.
From 30th till the halftime whistle they have scored three goals, not letting their opponents get back into the match in any way. The second halftime was less interesting with the visitors intentionally bringing he tempo down knowing that they are more than satisfied with the lead.
Even so, Livorno was unable to present themselves more dangerous, especially in the last twenty minutes when they stood to play with a man less following a red-card exclusion.
They are now without a victory since early November and with everything that they have shown so far, it’s really difficult to see them getting back into the battle for the playout positions. They are currently twelve points behind seventeenth placed Cremonese.
The guests miss suspended midfielder Agazzi (23/2) now.
Seems like a perfect opponent
A victory is kind of an obligation for Salernitana in this one and looking at their opponents, they couldn’t wish for a more ideal opponent. Livorno is generally going nowhere with their form and performances and is almost certain to relegate at the end of the season. Away from home, it’s simply below Serie B standards.
