St Etienne finally managed to get a victory last weekend, when the team visited Nimes and walked away with a narrow 1:0 three-pointer.
The only goal came in the 68th minute via Debuchy, completely against the flow of the match till then. they were in a position to threaten more after the goal via counters, but overall there’s no doubt that the players of Nimes did deserve more out of the clash.
As for the Europa League, they took a point in a 1:1 home game against Wolfsburg last Thursday night, even though they were slightly better against passive Germans.
The home side misses suspended offensive player Hamouma (7/3). Injured are right back Palencia (1/0) and goalkeeper Ruffier (6/0). The participation of defensive midfielder Aholou is doubtful for now.
Lyon was a huge favorite in their home clash against Nantes last Saturday evening, however, the team got defeated and surprised a lot in a 0:1 loss.
That defeat came in the very unlucky way, as the visitors scored via an own goal, while the players of Lyon have created far more and had much more of the ball possession as well.
Lyon now has no victory in the last six Ligue 1 rounds, but come into this one from a morale-boosting 2:0 victory away to RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Lyon is set to miss left back Kone (5/0) due to suspension. Central defender Denayer (7/0) is highly doubtful.
There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Lyon’s last 8 away games (Ligue 1).
No doubt that the hosts will want a positive result in this derby game, as they will try to build up the momentum after a victory over Nimes.
Lyon comes as a favorite, but their reliability at the back is highly questionable, as well as the current form of the visiting team. Goals are expected in their matches, but in their own net usually too.
