Napoli vs Sampdoria

Napoli come into this game after dominating in Serie A and are now on a 10 match unbeaten run in all competitions and undefeated in 7 straight in Serie A. Their form has taken an upswing after the great returns being provided by Dries Mertens who has scored 8 goals in his last 3 games and marched on to to be the 4th highest scorer in the division. Along with Mertens, there have been significant goal contributions from Callejon (7 goals, 7 assists), Hamsik (5 goals, 7 assists) and Insigne (5 goals, 5 assists) which has helped them pick up their form in the absence of Milik. Defensively, however Napoli have struggled with 6 out of their 9 home league games seeing both teams finding the back of the net and conceded in 9 out of 12 straight games in Serie A. Additionally, they will be missing some key defenders who are out on AFCON duty including Ghoulam and Koulibaly who have played almost every game this campaign; leaving others to stand in. Pepe Reina has conceded an average of 1 goal per game throughout this season, and that now has higher chances without better cover up front.

West Ham vs Manchester City

West Ham are looking to home comforts to try and progress to the next stage of the competition as their primary way of progressing to Europe for next season, as they have already been knocked out of the League Cup and are sitting deep in 13th in the table. West Ham were battling with 10 men for 75 minutes in their last game against Manchester United losing 2-0 after keeping the game extremely tight for 63 minutes with that man short. The Hammers will now look now to their key players Payet, Antonio, Carroll and Ayew to help them get through a leaky Manchester City team who have been shipping goals for fun.

Sociedad vs Villarreal

In the Copa del Rey, coming back from the winter break teams will be a bit lose considering that this competition is a 2-legged affair. Real Sociedad come into this encounter after a strong home record losing just 1 game from 8 played at home. Their strong home form has seen them net 15 goals while conceding 8; but even more impressive is victories against Valencia, Atletico Madrid and Las Palmas while keeping Barcelona to a 1-1 scoreline. In all their games played at home, we have seen a minimum of 2 goals scored in 7 out of those 8 games; so we can look forward to the likes of Vela, Willian Jose, Agirretxe, Prieto and Zurutza to continue their scoring form to take the home advantage heading into the second leg. Sociedad have only had one game under 2 goals in La Liga.

Stoke City vs Watford

Stoke City put on a spirited performance for the first half of their games against Liverpool and Chelsea, and unfortunately then lost 1-4 and 2-4 respectively. But Mark Hughes side have shown true heart in their recent games, and have been unlucky not to have results their way. A couple of games ago they were 2-0 up against Leicester before struggling to draw 2-2. Stoke City have been shifting their forwards a lot but certain players have been holding the fort including Joe Allen, Shawcross, Adam, Shaqiri and Afellay who have been supporting whoever the forward has been in order to deliver results. Defensively is where Stoke still need to improve with them conceding 13 goals in their last 5 games alone.

Leicester vs West Ham

Leicester City have been struggling in their recent encounters and that doesn’t bode well for them as they try to qualify once again for Europe in the coming year. Leicester will come into this game with just 1 victory in their last 9 games and know that they have to turn around their performances if they need to show what champions they are. Last time they played against Everton in front of their home fans and were beaten by Everton by a score of 2-0; which has seen them slip further to 16th spot in the table, just 3 points ahead of the relegation zone. Leicester need to make their home games count and for that they will need to find the back of the net more consistently starting with this game against West Ham.

Swansea vs West Ham

Swansea City have been extremely unpredictable in their performances this season, but one thing is definitely for sure, there have been a lot of goals. Their average goals per game is 3.35 with only 5 matches out of 17 going under 2.5 goals so far this campaign. Swansea sit in 19th spot because of the number of goals that they have been leaking, 37 goals leaked in 17 games, which is the worst defense in the entire league. They have somehow managed to find the back of the net 20 times in those games, due to performances from Sigurdsson, Llorente, Fer and Barrow who have been the fulcrum of the Swansea attack.

Fiorentina vs Napoli

Napoli come into this game after an outstanding goal scoring display against Torino in their last outing winning by a solid 5-3 scoreline; which they should have kept a clean sheet, but the poor defensive record has gone against them this season. In fact Napoli have conceded goals in 65% of their matches this season and that primarily has to do with the poor defensive efforts of a chopped and change defense and a poor Pepe Reina in goal. Napoli despite losing Milik have been in great scoring form and have scored 2 goals in 5 out of their last 7 games and their last 4 games has seen them score 15 goals in total. Mertens, Hamsik, Callejon, Insigne has been covering up the goals in the recent games. Napoli games have seen 55 goals happen in 17 games, which is an average of over 3 goals per game.

Napoli vs Torino

Torino have been the most entertaining team of the season for me, and I have throughly enjoyed watching every game that they have played. Torino have knocked down 32 goals in 16 games are the 3rd highest scorers of the season. They are now coming into this game against Napoli on the back of 2 straight defeates to Sampdoria and Juventus which has now dragged them to 8th spot in the table. They have a bunch of players who have contributed to their scoring in Betlotti (11 goals), Falque (7 goals), Ljajic (5 goals), Benassi & Baselli (4 goals each). All of them have been working well together as a team scoring together and even creating chances for them. Defensively however, Torino have still be vulnerable with goals being conceded in 13 out of their 16 games played so far, despite the signing of Joe Hart. Torino have conceded in 6 out of 8 away games and Napoli will look to that home advantage tonight.

Juventus vs Roma

Juventus have been in great form in recent weeks managing to maintain their lead at the top of table by 4 points against Roma; and victory here tonight can’t further extend their lead as they head into the Christmas break in the Serie A after this game. Juventus have been in good scoring form managing to find the back of the net in all bar 2 games so far this campaign across all competitions. Juventus will look to their key hit-man Higuain to find the back of the net, after he scored a brace last weekend. Their back up options including Dybala, Manduzkic, Cuadrado, Marchisio, Khedira have all been attacking and that gives plenty of attacking options for Juventus to manage to find the back of the defense. However, Juventus are facing several injury problems with Bonucci (2 months out), Barzagli (1 month), Alves (3 months), and Benatia (2 weeks). They have now conceded goals in 8 out of their last 9 league games due to all these injury problems.

Crystal Palace vs Manchester United

Crystal Palace have been in great scoring form off late managing to be able to score in 13 out of their last 15 games after making strong attacking signings this season with lots of goals coming from Zaha, Benteke, Townsend among their 3 attacking players. The Palace front line has now seen them also net 2 goals in each of their last 6 games, which should bring a lot of confidence to this side especially being the 5th highest scorers in the Premier League with 27 goals scored in 15 games. The bad side for Palace has been on the defensive end also where they have leaked 29 goals in those same 15 games, and that has been their struggle to try and win games. Their games are averaging around 3.7 goals per game; and will be dreading this Manchester United squad traveling to them. Both teams have scored in 11 out of the 15 games that Palace has played and have kept only 1 clean sheet all season.
